So much to learn, so little time

You know, when I was younger, I used to wonder how I was ever going to be able to read all the books that had ever been written.

We have access now to so much information and knowledge via the internet, never mind 'fear of missing out', I think sometimes I have 'fear of not having enough time to find out and learn about it all'.

Reading about a random topic on Wiki that leads to a marathon onward link trail; finding that one picture or article or video on Facebook or Youtube or Pinterest that leads to discovering a new hobby, travel bucket list destination, singer, artist or just really interesting fact...anything! I love that.

I'd watched the odd video link posted by National Geographic before, but only recently realised that they were from a whole Short Film Showcase of videos from around the web. I'm working my way slowly through them - it's a great Sunday morning contemplation exercise. And I want to share the ones I love the most on the blog. One at a time, short little nuggets of thoughts and ideas. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

How about this beautifully mesmerising clip of the process of traditional hand egg painting in Bukovina, Romania, to kick things off?

The Art of Egg Painting: Ciocanesti, Romania from Jungles in Paris on Vimeo

Ornamental eggs are a signature craft of Eastern Europe. The jeweled Fabergé versions once coveted by the Russian nobility are really just a high-end take on a humbler, older, and perhaps even more remarkable Easter tradition. See the full story.

Weekend DIY - Fabric Floral Rings

One of my best friends from school, who I've known since we were 12, is getting married this Sunday =D!! I'll be away on bridesmaid duty. Let's hope it's not going to be too hot...

To round off this month's wedding related DIY's, here is a cute idea. Turn little fabric flowers into lovely floral ring bands. All you need is ribbon, fabric flowers, and a glue gun!

Weekend DIY - Ruffly Corsage

Continuing on from last week's wedding theme, here is a simple step by step from Martha Stewart Weddings for making an adorable ruffled corsage for little flower girls. I think that it could be worn to any summer function, and not just by little girls. Also, how about making it into a hair accessory or brooch... =D

Weekend DIY - Tea Storage Jars

Do you ever walk into a specialist tea shop and hanker after the neat rows of pretty jars for your  own kitchen? *Me! Me!* Well, I don't suppose many of us would really need to have so many varieties of tea on selection, but cute storage ideas are always good!

Let Amanda of Wit & Whistle show you how easily you can upcycle glass jars into storage for your favourite herbal teas (or anything else you fancy putting in them) with a simple coat of chalk paint.

Weekend DIY - Macaron Coin Purse

Okkie, I know the instructions to these adorable handmade macaroon/macaron shaped coin purses by Joanne of CraftPassion look a little complicated (to me at least!) but they're too good not to share. I think they'd make such sweet little gifts! Or maybe used to hold little gifts...

Weekend DIY - Lip Balm

When the weather gets colder and drier, I tend to find myself constantly covered in moisturising creams and balms or else my skin becomes really dry very quickly. So on that note of skin pampering, this weekend's make-your-own is for handmade lip balm. The ingredients list is short and the steps are ridiculously simple. With Christmas and New Year on their way, batches of these would make wonderful little gifts too.

And for those who prefer a little colour, here's an alternative recipe for making your own tinted lip balm! (Martha Stewart)

Weekend DIY - Sock Totoro

I love pretty much all of Hayao Miyasaki-san's animations but I think My Neighbour Totoro is my favourite. How could you not fall in love with a big furry forest spirit and a cat bus?

It would be amazing to have a giant plushie Totoro of course, but these sock plushie versions are just as cute, no? Plus they look so easy to sew. Try your hand at making your own sock Totoro plushie!

Weekend DIY - Bunny Sachet

These fabric bunny shaped sachets are just so cute! I love the many different ways which Joanne suggests you can use them: for example, how about filling them with silica gel beads and then popping them in with things you need to keep dry?

More ideas on what to use these bunnies for, full instructions and templates to make your own fabric bunny sachets.

Slipper making with the Merry Bobbins

I went slipper making with a friend on Sunday. The workshop was run by the wonderful Chloe and Kirstie of The Merry Bobbins in a shoe store on Broadway Market.

It was so much fun! We cut up felted wool jumpers, attached them to squishy soft sheepskin soles and turned them into adorable snugly slippers. I chose the round toe; there was also a slimmer pointy toe version.

I only managed one side at the workshop but completed them without any problems at home. You can decorate them however you like, I put pink ribbon bows on mine (after changing my mind millions of times regarding where and how big...) and finished the back edge with some more ribbon.

I ♥ them! They are so cute and really, really comfortable. We were all sent home with the pattern and a leather needle, and I am seriously contemplating making some more as presents.

There are still some places left in the 2 remaining slipper making Sunday workshops - if you're in London, they're highly recommended! ~♥~
