Cookie Wisdom

As a kid, Cookie Monster was always my favourite one from Sesame Street because he had funny eyes and was such a messy eater XD

Little President Man

Have you met Robby Novak, aka Kid President?

He is adorable and I'm a huge fan. His videos are so funny and uplifting. This incredible little boy living with his own illness inspires a lot of happiness.

You can't help smiling and he has the most infectious laugh.

Only 10 and he's met the President at the White House and been invited to the United Nations!

ilovedoodle by Lim Heng Swee

I saw this incredibly funny image of an ice cream cone...emm...doing its business (!) on Pinterest and just had to find out who the artist was. After a search, I finally landed on Lim Heng Swee's ilovedoodle page.

An illustrator/visual artist based in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia, I love how his simple illustrations are so fun and whimsical, and sometimes also carry little messages of encouragement.

Weekend DIY - Sock Totoro

I love pretty much all of Hayao Miyasaki-san's animations but I think My Neighbour Totoro is my favourite. How could you not fall in love with a big furry forest spirit and a cat bus?

It would be amazing to have a giant plushie Totoro of course, but these sock plushie versions are just as cute, no? Plus they look so easy to sew. Try your hand at making your own sock Totoro plushie!

New Year's Eve

Happy 2012 everyone! Did you do anything special to bring in the new year?

I went to visit a friend who I hadn't seen in a while. She'd invited me to what she had intended to be a small, quiet New Year's eve with a few friends. The evening was going quickly for our small group; we chatted over food and drink, sang songs and played silly games. It was getting a little late by the time we decided we should probably head out if we wanted to see the fireworks. We even made hot chocolate to go so we could celebrate in style when Big Ben chimed midnight.

Of course, we were stuck in traffic for much of the way with others who'd presumably decided on the same thing. We eventually managed to park the car somewhere with 15 minutes to go and had to race against the clock to be on one of the bridges for the fireworks over the Thames. It's not easy to power walk whilst holding a flask of hot chocolate. We made it in time though and promptly joined in with the excited throng. There was much jumping, and shouting, and hugging. The hot chocolate had gone cold, but we didn't care anymore.

After the countdown and the light show, we decided to delay getting back into the car as we didn't want to have spent more time in it than out of it. So we wandered around the streets of central London, sang some more songs and bought smoothies from a smoothie shop that had employed bouncers for the night. Soon after, it was decided that we would all crash at my friend's place so that we could have a fry up breakfast together in the morning.

It was around 2am when we got back. Still buzzing, we continued to eat the leftover food and proceeded to wax lyrical about life and other things right into the small hours.

RW Emerson said, "It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.”

How true.

Horrible Histories

Have you ever read the Horrible Histories books by Terry Deary? They use a mix of comic illustrations, fun facts and jokes to bring to life historical events and figures. I'd always liked history at school for its stories more than anything.

Well, the BBC have been doing a live-action version of the books on their children's channel which has been winning all sorts of awards. They have top comedy writers working on limitless material with a brilliant cast of actors who have a whale of a time making complete idiots of themselves as people from different eras and places (ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Romans, the Vikings, the Tudors, the Middle Ages etc etc).

Cutting edge Roman technology - aBook launch

The best part is they parody a lot of current TV shows, and the resulting sketches are just hilarious - think Aztec Come Dine With Me, Historical Masterchef...

Historical Wife Swap (the French Revolution)

I love the musical numbers the most, especially the ones that parody current bands and singers.

The 4 King Georges - as a boy band (!)

It's great fun to watch and you learn interesting things along the way. I'm a shameless fan.
